The Explore Local Statistics service, launched by the Office for National Statistics in March 2024, is transforming the way users find, visualise, compare and download local data, ultimately enabling better informed policies and decisions that benefit local areas across the UK:

  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of the Explore Local Statistics service and its features
  • Learn to efficiently navigate and extract relevant data
  • Learn more about the K-means clustering methodology that was created to allow users to compare statistically similar areas

Sofia Calzavara is the Assistant Deputy Director of the Subnational Statistics and Analysis division within the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Sofia achieved a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in management. She has worked in the ONS for over 3 years, previously managing the Explore Local Statistics service team which recently received the Campion Award for excellence in official statistics from the Royal Statistical Society.


Will Haste is a subnational analyst working within the ONS. He is a statistician with a background in economics and a master’s degree in environmental policy and management from the University of Bristol. Will has been working within the ONS for 4 years and leading clustering outputs for the last 2 years. He has previously worked as a liaison for Mayoral Combined Authorities within the ONS and led analysis on the determinants of person well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.
