The Office for National Statistics (ONS), ESCoE, Administrative Data Research UK (ADR UK) and the Wage and Employment Dynamics (WED) team invite submissions for the second ONS Earnings Symposium. The event will be held at 10 Union Street, London, SE1 1SZ, on 26 January 2027.
The symposium will explore the latest developments, methodologies, and applications relating to earnings data and earnings statistics, focusing on the following datasets:
- The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE),
- HMRC PAYE-RTI data,
- The Monthly Wages and Salaries Survey, and
- ASHE-Census and ASHE-HMRC datasets curated by the WED project

Themes and topics
The Symposium will include presentations from ONS earnings teams, outlining developments with these key earnings datasets. The event will also include a series of invited papers.
We welcome submissions on topics such as:
- New findings or insights using earnings data
- Data and methodological advancements
- Coherence between earnings data sources
- Applications of linked earnings datasets in policymaking
- Case studies demonstrating the value of earnings research
- Future opportunities and challenges in earnings research and statistics.
This event offers a unique platform to:
- Gain insights into current future developments directly from ONS and WED teams.
- Present and discuss innovative research leveraging ONS earnings datasets.
- Foster collaborations between researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.
- Explore the future of UK earnings statistics and their applications.

Submission guidelines
Researchers, policymakers, and practitioners are invited to submit papers for regular presentation or poster presentation. Submissions for either type of presentation may be made as full papers or extended abstracts.
Extended abstracts should be around 750 words in length and include the title and research question along with a summary of methods and results.
Submissions should align with the symposium’s focus on earnings data, curated by ONS or the WED project.
