Meeting the challenge of measuring the economy through the Covid-19 pandemic

Covid-19 Webinar

Thursday 14 May 2020, 11:30 — 12:30

Presented by:  Jonathan Athow (Office for National Statistics)

The developing coronavirus pandemic has led to new challenges for statistical agencies, such as how to collect information with many shops closed, businesses ceasing to trade and no interviewers to knock on doors. The situation continues to evolve, and even now, the economy is operating very differently to how it did just a matter of weeks ago. In this seminar Jonathan Athow explains how the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) are addressing some of the known – and the new – challenges, including highlighting how ONS will be collecting and publishing key indicators such as GDP.
