The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) does not currently provide a seasonally adjusted series either for aggregate consumer price inflation (CPI and CPIH) or the underlying disaggregate price indices. However, other institutions do, including the Bureau for Labor Statistics in the United States and the European Central Bank. The National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR), supported by ONS seeks to assess whether the ONS could provide seasonally adjusted data for its price indices, and if so, how best to do this. This session will present the findings from the research project and next steps.

Huw Dixon, Research Lead for Economic Measurement (NIESR): Huw is an authority on inflation and inflation modelling, contributing insightful analysis to NIESR’s monthly commentary on ONS inflation figures. His expertise extends to areas like monetary policy, nominal rigidity, imperfect competition, and bounded rationality, where he explores complex economic dynamics with depth and precision.
