Mairi Spowage appointed Non-Executive Director of UK Statistics Authority

ESCoE is delighted to congratulate Professor Mairi Spowage, a member of our Leadership Executive, on her appointment as a non-executive director of the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA). She will serve a three-year term, following her selection by UKSA Chair Sir Robert Chote.

As a leading expert in economic measurement and official statistics, Mairi has contributed extensively to ESCoE’s work on improving the UK’s economic statistics. Her research has been pivotal in advancing methodologies for regional economic analysis and trade measurement, along with measurement of the voluntary sector’s contribution. Through her leadership at ESCoE, she has helped shape innovative approaches to data collection and analysis, ensuring that economic statistics remain robust and fit for purpose in an evolving economy.

Alongside her role at ESCoE, Mairi serves as Director of the Fraser of Allander Institute at the University of Strathclyde and has held senior positions at the Scottish Fiscal Commission and the Scottish Government. She also advises key institutions, including the Office for Budget Responsibility and the Finance and Public Administration Committee.
