Congratulations to ESCoE Research Director Paul Schreyer who has received a prestigious award for his work on economic statistics.

The Shiskin Award recognises unusually original and important contributions to the development and application of economic statistics. Established in 1980, it is co-sponsored by the Washington Statistical Society, the National Association for Business Economics, and the American Statistical Association.
Paul is internationally recognised for his work on productivity measurement, National Accounts, and statistical standards. During a career spanning more than three decades at the OECD (including serving as Chief Statistician and Director of the Statistics and Data Directorate from 2020 to 2024), he played a leading role in shaping how countries measure economic performance, capital and productivity.
He is the author of two widely used OECD manuals, Measuring Productivity(2001) and Measuring Capital (2009), which continue to underpin statistical practice worldwide. His research has advanced the measurement of digital services, information and communication technologies, natural capital, and the output of sectors such as health and education. As Rapporteur for the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Commission, he also contributed to broadening the interpretation of economic performance and social progress.
Paul is now ESCoE’s Research Director, working with other members of the Leadership Executive to develop and deliver a cutting-edge research programme. This is improving understanding of the economy through innovation in economic measurement, data and statistics.
“It’s an honour to be recognised at times when rigorous measurement and trusted data matter more than ever. And I am grateful to colleagues at ESCoE and at the OECD who have made this work both meaningful and enjoyable.” – Paul Schreyer
