Marta Paczos

Marta Paczos is a Senior Economic Adviser at the UK’s Department for Business and Trade, where she co-leads the central modelling team. She is currently seconded to ESCoE to work on the UK firm-level data and the Micro-Data Infrastructure (MDI) project.

Her work focuses on the applied economic modelling in policymaking context. Marta’s research interests lie at the intersection of international trade, productivity, and economic measurement, with a strong emphasis on policy relevance and firm-level microdata, exploring how granular data can be used to better understand trade dynamics, business innovation, and industrial strategy, particularly through international comparisons and structural modelling.

Prior to her current role, Marta was an economic advisor at HM Treasury. Prior to that she’s been Senior Economist at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) and a Research Economist at the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE). She has led collaborative analytical projects with international institutions including the WTO and the OECD. Marta holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Bologna and remains affiliated with ESCoE as a Research Associate.
