Mike Hughes

Mike Hughes is a former senior statistician with over 35 years’ experience in the UK’s Government Statistical Service (GSS), serving as Chief Statistician in a number of major policy departments.

From 2003 to 2009 he was Director of Policy for the ONS where he led the work to introduce the Statistics and Regulation Services Act and implementation of the UK Statistics Authority. He has since been active in the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) where he chaired the National Statistics Advisory Group and served on the RSS Council. He also acted as statistics advisor to Full Fact. He now works as a consultant on statistical governance and systems in developing countries.
