Rebecca Riley is Director of the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE) and Fellow of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR). Her research interests include labour markets, productivity, economic measurement and policy evaluation. Rebecca has led numerous research projects for government departments and funding councils. She has also been an external advisor to UK Trade & Investment, the Department for Work and Pensions and the ONS. Previously, she was head of the productivity group and the UK economy forecast at NIESR. Rebecca is affiliated with the Centre for Macroeconomics and the Centre for Learning and Life Chances, UCL Institute of Education. Her research is published in peer reviewed journals, including the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society and the Economic Journal.
Sarah Sheppard is ESCoE’s Operations Director responsible for ensuring the delivery of the research programme and managing the multi-institutional partnerships. Sarah has a BSc in Geography from the University of Glasgow, a MSc in Environmental Management from the University of Stirling and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Birkbeck College. She worked for over 20 years at UCL in various research management roles at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis and most recently at the ESRC funded Consumer Data Research Centre in the Department of Geography where she managed the UCL, University of Liverpool and University of Oxford teams.
Richard J. Smith is ESCoE’s Academic Co-Director and Emeritus Professor of Econometric Theory and Economic Statistics at the University of Cambridge. He has held chairs at the Universities of Cambridge, Warwick and Bristol. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and Econometric Society and Journal of Econometrics, Governor of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, was an Honorary Professor at the University of Warwick 2008-13 and held a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship 2003-6. He is a member of the G.S.S. Methodogy Advisory Panel and past member of the ONS Academic Econometric Panel. He is a member of the Executive Committee and Council of the Royal Economic Society. He has held Visiting Professors at many institutions including Yale University, Berkeley, Université de Montréal, CREST-INSEE, Paris, and the University of Melbourne. He is Managing Editor of The Econometrics Journal published by the Royal Economic Society, an Advisory Board member and past Co-editor of Econometric Theory and past Associate Editor of Econometrica. He has published extensively in leading international economics and statistics journals including Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Econometrics, Econometric Theory, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Biometrika and Journal of the American Statistical Association.
