Nicolas Carnot is director for economic studies and syntheses at Insee, the French National Statistical Institute.
His career as a senior civil servant includes positions in the national economic administration as well as inside international organisations (European Commission, International Monetary Fund). Among others, he served as chief auditor at the Cour des comptes, fiscal policy advisor in DG ECFIN, and deputy director and head of economic forecasts in the French Treasury. A graduate from the Ecole Polytechnique and ENSAE Paris Tech, he co-authored the reference textbook Economic Forecasting and Policy (Palgrave Macmillan, 2nd ed., 2011). In recent years, he published mostly in the fields of macroeconomics, public finance and European economic governance.
